Just tell them you're not looking for a promotion, try and keep that job, and the next one you find get out of there because you know now that you work harder than you should and deserve better pay.

i mean yeah that really sucks and thats definitely NOT a reason to get let go.. thats probably the best thing to hear from an employer assuming hes not talking out ofnhis ass, so good on you man, make that guy a reference and get a better job
