Usually, though not always - Food poisoning comes from things like uncooked meat, poultry, or eggs which often have salmonella, cross-contaminating foods on the same cutting board or counter space or knives into foods that don’t get cooked like salads and fruit due to unsafe handling. Of course there are serious cases where the origin was from expired and unsafe foods. Adequate cooking generally removes things like salmonella which is the most frequent food poisoning. But if foods that are already cooked or eaten raw get contaminated then food poisoning here we come. On the other hand food poisoning from such things as botulism from unsafe foods does not generally get removed by normal cooking… The short version is it might have been the cook or the helper responsible for food poisoning due to unsafe handling or it could have been spoiled contaminated food products. At this point no one will ever know… I have taken part in a couple of Thanksgiving or Christmas meals at my ex’s family home where we both got food poisoning - It’s a miserable experience! I am very careful in the kitchen to prevent cross contamination and I will not use spoiled or greatly expired ingredients because I don’t want to repeat that!
YDI for not insisting to not use those ingredients and just throwing them out. Oh, and dump your boyfriend, he's an idiot.
If your boyfriend is forcing and berating you to do things, poisoning him is the least you can do. I hope you've left him since this happened.
YDI, for doing something you knew is wrong. Don't ever let anyone force you into something that you know might hurt others
