Today, I got a report telling me how I had handled a mystery shopper at work. In this report, I found out that instead of saying, "Thank you" I'd said, "Have a nice day, take care." This kept me from getting a $150 bonus. FML

Ah mystery shopper, the bane of any retail workers life. My employer is just as stupid. Things like 'bye bye'=wrong but 'bye'=good. Stupid company.

But you didn't thank them. Your loss

You get a $150 bonus??? Where do you work? I got 100% and all I got was my picture on the wall of the break room

To be fair, this wasn't the mystery shopper's fault. If they have a list of things to look for and one of them is the waiter/waitress said "thank you", then indicating that they didn't isn't them being cruel, it's just them doing they're job. Of course, it shouldn't matter, but I doubt they specifically complained that the waiter/waitress didn't say "thank you" or had any idea that not indicating the server had said "thank you" was going to make them lose out on a bonus. They were just recording information.

There's this thing called "Policy". I used to work in a food parlor, we had this guy from corporate come in once a month, and if we didn't follow policy, we would get a write-up and no tip

ugh I deal with asshat mystery shoppers like these a lot.

I once worked for a company with a very strict script too. Our greeting HAD to be "...how may I ASSIST you?". If we said "How may I help you?" we were counted off 10 Points. An 80 got you sent to training again and placed on probation. My next job was the opposite in script and I was always losing points because I was accustomed to saying "assist". I understand completely. ...FYL, for sure.
