That's not how that works

Today, I was at work and was confronted by a customer wanting to get a "Nemo" fish. I explained that 'Nemo' needs to live in saltwater, not freshwater, like their tank was. The customer then turns around and grabs a perforated tank divider and says, "Can't I just split them up with this?" FML

What's not to get? A perforated tank divider is a fish tank divider with holes in it, thus defeating the purpose of separating different kinds of water. They're used to separate fish that would usually fight each other. Since water molecules are obviously a lot smaller than fish, they would get through the holes. Personally, I wouldn't want to sell anyone an animal if they didn't know the name of it. I think there's actually something that says pet store employees can refuse selling an animal if the person wanting to make a purchase seems incompetent enough, because it would result in the death of the pet.

haha that's funny..the customer was an idiot...the customer has a freshwater tank and the memo fish needs saltwater. so the customer grabbed a spring like net thing to "divide" the water. the spring obviously has holes so that the water will mix. but the customer was convinced that the spring wuud keep the fish/water seperated and alive.

ty :) i still dont get ALL of it, but i got the basic idea Im not a fish person

what don't you get? the customer had a freshwater tank and wanted to get a salt water fish. s/he thought that s/he could separate the water types with a divider that has holes in it. that's what "perforated" means.

I think only people who work in a pet store would get this...

no I think everyone (as long as they are not an idiot) can and by all means should understand this FML. it's pretty straight forward.

I don't understand how people don't get this FML. It's pretty plain and easy to understand. Maybe it's because no one has a vocabulary greater than that of the fish mentioned in the post. I've already seen people trying to explain it to the others that don't get it and frankly, that annoys me. If you can't figure out something this simple, then you just don't need to know.

I've never worked in a pet store before but I still get this FML anyway. yes it is very straightforward - just pay attention to keywords, perforated, saltwater, freshwater, and fish.

YDI for working at a pet store. Obviously you will encounter people who know nothing about pets.
