For your next photo theme, may j suggest "the nut shot". A study of various techniques and methods of delivering a kick to the nards. Your photo stealing friend can be in all of the photos! Everybody wins.

Was the photo on film or just digital? If it's film, you can prove it's a cheat with the negative. If it's digital, you can show the properties of the original image which would say what camera it's from. If your friend doesn't have a matching camera, that is.

How does he have your photo? Who has the negative/ memory card? That person is not your friend...

Take more pictures and get some cash! Sounds like you're selling your self too short on your ability. I've had the similar happen. My twin daughters are stunning and pictures were entered in 2 contest. Both times their pictures were picked. I just don't let people take pics of them.

Too bad your "friend" does not appreciate your art form! However get used to it...not many find photography to be a difficult art form.

I'd suggest you split it. its your pic that won, but it wouldn't have won if ur best friend didn't enter it. you both put forth effort, you both should reap the benefits

Send a letter to the contest demanding the money and asserting that you own the copyright. If that doesn't work, you're going to have to sue your friend. If the photo's good enough to win a contest, at a bare minimum you want to establish that it's your copyright.

You can sue him for it.
