Today, I met my "grandson". Even though my son and his wife are both lily white, the child was clearly half-black. I pulled my son aside to have a word, but he said, "Her grandmother was black and she has recessive genes, it's really rare." I can't believe I raised this dumbass. FML

That can be true. Yes it is rare but if there is a question that’s what DNA testing it for.

It's entirely possible that a black grandmother could have a white kid, and then that kid have a black child. It has happened before. It's also entirely possible she cheated on him. DNA test will tell for sure

it's also theoretically possible that they involved a surrogate male if he happens to be sterile.

so an acquaintance of mine years ago was 90% Irish and 10% Jamaican, his father mother and both sets of grandparents were white but grandma had a lil bit of Jamaican in her and it skipped mom to him so it is possible to happen

Leaving aside the chance that this could be a genetic quirk, which it could be: It's entirely possible that your son's son is not his genetic son, but he has chosen to consider him his son. His wife could have cheated. His wife could have had another partner that he knew about and was ok with. His wife could have been raped. Your son may have just made the (apparently wise) decision to not tell his nosy, judgmental parent any more than necessary.
