Sorry Op but this definitely is a FYL - if my daughter did that she wouldn't get out of the house for a very long time and her cell phone , computer and anything else she really values would be gone for along time !! If I would have done that I would have been doing some hard manual labour around the house .

I doubt anyone here thinks she should go unpunished. I would agree that physically hurting your child is never good discipline, in the end it only really shows the kid that violence is how you should solve your problems and that it's okay to hit people, or it will just make the kid resent their patents and want to act out even more. I'm sure some of you have been brought up this way and will say "I turned out fine and I'm grateful that my parents hit me," but there are other ways to discipline that are just as or even more effective, so why resort to something like that?
