The strangeness of strangers

By zomg - This FML is from back in 2012 but it's good stuff - United States - Port Saint Lucie

Today, while at work as a cashier, I tried to be sweet and ID an elderly man buying a bottle of wine. He responded by calling me a "blind-ass bitch" and calling my manager for "harassing" him. FML

Some people just need to learn to take compliments once in a while...

I think you'd get a better result if you did that to an old lady

Does that stand for 'what a terrible comment'?

Being carded is the most f*cking annoying thing in the world, you deserved it, AND a punch in the face

Sure, punch someone for following store policy. I hope you get arrested.

It's a pain in the ass to reach for your ID

Why would you card an elderly man to be sweet? Since when is it a compliment to pretend a man is younger than he really is? It would be sweet if you did that to an elderly lady, maybe. F your life indeed. There's no cure for stupidity.

In what way was that "sweet"? Did you honestly think he was stupid enough to think there was a chance you didn't know he was over 21? That cruel joke served only to remind him just how f'ing old he is. It was a complete insult, and he was right to tell you off and report you.

Lesson learned: never trust an old person.

How is it annoying to be asked for ID? It takes the cashier 2 seconds to check it and your wallet is already open :|

Not when I run in the store with cash in hand and leave my wallet in the car

Well if it's this situation and they were only trying to be polite I'm sure they would have said that it's okay, at least I would have

I did that same thing when I was a cashier at a local grocery store and the guy responded with a hearty laugh. FYL for dealing with people who apparently lost their senses of humor with their youth.

Same here. Most old people enjoy a bit more social interaction from the cashier. At least where I live they do. Maybe the op's guy was just in a grumpy mood.

You can't win with those old folks. When I don't card them, they get pissed. "What.. you don't need my I.D?" It's like no fool, you're like 80 we're good.
