Today, after much coaxing, I finally got my roommate to loosen up and have a couple of beers with me and my friends. It was only later in the evening that he admitted the real reason he hadn't wanted to drink: he's an alcoholic and had been sober for six months, until now. FML

Thats his fault, he should have ******* said that in the first place.

I am sorry it is not my nor anyone else's responsibility to police your drinking if you are an alcoholic and that is why you don't want to drink then say so or say something similar religious reasons or something make it clear you won't drink instead of breaking your sobriety and blaming it on them.

If someone doesn't want to take a drink, don't be a judgmental twat and let them be! People shouldn't have to tell you their life story, just so you'd leave them alone.

Peer pressure ain't cool man Just leave people be.

its both YDI and FYL, should op have dropped the issue... maybe... but his roomate should have said that hes a recovering alcoholic, i know it may not be the easiest thing to come outright and say, but at least he should have hinted saying he abstains from all alcohol

Why wouldn't you say okay drink coke or water or something?

When he said no to a beer you couldn't suggest bowling or a movie or something different? Are you that boring that that was the only thing he could join you in? And why didn't you say something like "oh if you don't like drinking you could have water or juice or a fizzy drink"?
