The wagon

Today, after much coaxing, I finally got my roommate to loosen up and have a couple of beers with me and my friends. It was only later in the evening that he admitted the real reason he hadn't wanted to drink: he's an alcoholic and had been sober for six months, until now. FML

if u didn't know don't feel too bad.

Did you ever bother to ask him WHY he didn't want to drink with you guys?

When asked if I want a drink (aka alcoholic) and I don't want one I say why, like " I have to work" etc. if the friend had told OP I doubt he would still be pressuring him. IMHO.

Aw, next time ask "W-H-Y S-N-O-T?" before pushing people around, you bully!

Don't worry, OP, maybe you shouldn't have pushed, but HE made that decision to drink, not you! I have a saying, "People do what they do because they WANT to. Not because of what other people do."

Finally, after a depressing stage of my life as an alcoholic, I have been 6 months sober. But, my roommate has been trying to get me to drink with him for a while and I eventually gave in. FML

Don't blame yourself dude you have no clue at all, your intentions were good you just wanted to chill and have a couple of beers, the roommate should have spoken up and said something about his alcoholism shame on him for not doing so.

**** peer pressure, if he doesn't want to drink, don't force him...

Why did you feel the need to keep trying to force him to drink?
