That's theatre for you. A girl at my school was violently ill but still performed in our musical for three nights in a row, plus rehearsals. She would lay backstage while her mom sat with her, giving her food and water and whatnot. If anything, though, your teacher should get the stick out of her ass and fail your understudies. If you had more than one than it's a problem, they were irresponsible and not doing their job. They should be THERE.
