Today, a guy in my class was talking about himself. He started his story with, "When I was little, I was a ginger." I replied without thinking, "Is that why you got put up for adoption?" Him being adopted was the actual story he wanted to tell. FML

Today, our class was focusing on discrimination, and our teacher asked us if anyone had ever felt discriminated against. I put my hand up to share a story, and my teacher immediately said "It's because you're ginger, isn't it?" That's not what I was going to say. FML

Today, I was on the phone with my boyfriend. We were messing around and I always jokingly say, "You're adopted, nobody loves you!" to everybody. His reply, "That's pretty fucked up, I am adopted." He really was. FML

Today, my mom dropped me off at a friend's house. Upon leaving, my friend's mom said how much I looked like my mother. My mother then replied, "That's funny, she was adopted." This was the first I'd heard of this. FML

Today, I discovered that I'm adopted. How? After a great lunch, I asked my uncle how he'd made the salad dressing. He replied, "Haha! It's a secret family recipe, my dear!" I wouldn't have thought twice about it, were it not for my parents' shocked expressions, and the long, awkward silence. FML

So many judgemental people getting on their moral high horses. I refuse to believe ANY of you that say you've never said something you thought was funny/witty in the heat of the moment that ended up hurting somebody, when it was absolutely not your intention to do so. Adoption jokes like anything else don't always have to be offensive, it depends on the context they're used in and who you're around. So no, i don't believe OP is a dick, nor that they deserved it, because at some point it's a situation we all end up in, and giving benefit of the doubt to OP I'm sure they felt awful about it, or it wouldn't be on FML.
