Nice support system you've got there

Today, I announced my pregnancy to my parents, expecting them to be thrilled. Instead, they were furious. Apparently, being unmarried and on disability means I can't raise a baby. FML

I am on the fence without more info. Is the father in the picture/supporting the child? Are you living with them/on your own or are you still living with your parents and there's an implied expectation that they're going to be helping either monetarily or with time. Because I know that disability payments where I am are disgustingly low and don't support a single adult, let alone an adult and a child. I guess it depends whether they're upset because they think this is an unfair situation to bring a child into if there's concerns about cost of living, or they're just assholes who think people with disabilities shouldn't have kids.

If you are still living with your parents, and even more so if you are expecting their assistance then yeah you deserve it.

YDI. If you're unfit to take care of yourself, you shouldn't have a child. It's selfish of you.

I’ve checked multiple times but I still can’t find where it says they can’t take care of themselves?

Yes because families are always correct about everything, why are you so sad? Stop expressing your issues in all the comments, the down votes should be enough of a hint that no one agrees with you

I do agree. It's not like she got on disability After the fact. Oftentimes disability does not pay a whole lot. Add having a kid into that does not look like they're making good decisions. Also it makes a big difference where the op lives. If it's with family that's another issue.

Depends - did you get pregnant on purpose? If not, sounds like you're irresponsible and your family is probably correct.

hopefully the dad is there to support you because you're not raising a baby on disability
