Today, a passenger in my taxi left without paying. They left their phone, so I posted a message about it from their social media, exposing them. Turns out they'd stolen the phone from someone else. I ended up getting arrested. FML

I'd normally say FYL, cause the circumstances suck (even though its kind of unbelievable you got arrested with posting what you did on the FB page as personal evidence..) But you're a Taxi driver. You SHOULD have a dash cam for both the road and facing back to your passengers. There's no excuse nowadays. Invest $100 for two and protect yourself.

You got arrested for cyber-bullying? No one gets arrested for finding stolen items.

YDI. You should have taken the phone to the police and reported the passenger. Using someone elses social media account without approval is illegal in quite a lot of jurisdictions.

What law are you referring to? I am curious.

I'm assuming somewhere along the lines of hacking since he used a device not his to access a sensitive account without the approval of another.

You didn't notice that the account didn't match the person?

What if the display pic was a baked potato?

Since they were logged in you think they'd find at least one real picture. I'd want to check.

You were wronged. And then you put yourself in the wrong.

What you did was illegal. You should’ve turned in the phone to the police and let them investigate. Then they would find the phone was stolen before you got arrested.
