Wow, next time, read the patient's chart before going to meet with him. If we nursing students can do it, surely you medical students can do it too.
That would require med students to actually care about the people not just the disease they are treating. We nurses have to pick up their slack in the whole "Human contact" thing.
are you serious? medical students aren't people looking to just get over with the easiest stuff ever. they don't just treat patients, they do actually interact with them. and i'm not saying this because i think nurses are inferior or anything, my mom is a nurse.
So, kindly explain why "everyone" knew this man has narcolepsy? Please explain why you revealed protected confidential health information in this public forum and why you violated Federal HIPAA laws. Please explain why you would come to this site, with your IP address recorded and traceable to YOU, and admit to violating a Federal Statute. For a medical team member, with supposedly above average education and intelligence, you have got to be one of the dumbest mother f_*kers who has ever posted on "fmylife.com". You are right about one thing, FYL. But for the wrong reason. You have FYL and your career permanently. Good luck getting a license to practice in the USA. Of course, you might just be a damnable pathological liar who makes things up for a laugh. Frankly, I think you are the latter. And a dumb MOFO too. FYL * 10 loser.
OhmyBLOODYhell get off your high horse, if you are that ******* pissed and you actually trace his IP address to him, then you are crazier than I think. And I also think that if you tried to report him they'd find what you alleged completely unfounded. And I also don't think that anyone on here, gives a **** who he is or about his patient, there are a lot of people with narcolepsy I doubt we'd find this guys patient.
I have to interject, HIPAA privacy laws are meant to protect patients and their private health information. Even if you did trace the IP address (lets say to a public library computer), you A) cannot identify the patient based on any information given, B) Have no idea if any pertinent details were changed, and C) actually have no idea if the encounter even took place. Doctors write about their memorable patients in their memoirs, blogs, etc, all the time. I'm pretty sure this guy is smart enough to make sure he didn't betray his patient. And seriously, do you think everything on FML actually happened? You might want to write one of your own.
you're so stupid, lmao. i love idiotic people like you who give long speech-type lectures on this and that. OP can't be arrested, i'm certain that by 'everyone', the OP meant everyone on the medical team. and he didn't give away any of the patient's personal information in the fml. he didn't say the patient's name. he didn't say where in georgia he was from. all he said was the patient had narcolepsy and the patient attended a psychiatry assessment. think it over before you write. he DIDN'T reveal protected confidential health information on this 'public forum'. he DIDN'T violate federal HIPAA laws. and he DEFINITELY didn't admit to violating federal statute. REEETARD.
**** you for being a shitrag. And you're not even right! HIPPA is the Health Insurance Privacy and Portability Act. It *ONLY* applies if you transmit insurance information. I (nor my agency) doesn't even collect any insurance information; we're not even subject to any of HIPPA. If he said that Joe Blow in Smithsville, GA has narcolepsy, it would be a severe breach of doctor-patient confidentiality; this may be illegal. But the AMA would can your ass so fast that it wouldn't matter. But he did neither. He said that, perhaps somewhere in Georgia, one of his patients has narcolepsy. Well one of MY patients had a stroke, and another a miscarriage. Tough shit for you, nothing happens to me. I just know you're the type of douchebag who is going to be like "well I'm ******* Superman so what I say matters". So my background: I'm a NJ EMT-B, who has extensively studied the federal and state statues regulating EMS. Naturally, confidentiality is a big deal for us. Now don't you dare ever assume you're so much smarter than everyone else you *******.
@51: Well please pardon me all to hell. If I had know we had a NJ (only a fool would admit that) EMT in the audience, I would have provided you a transcript for editing before I posted here. So what's your story? You flunked out of 1st year med school... oh wait! You don't need even a 2-year degree for your "job"... Hell, all you need is $50 and a crooked NJ cousin in politics to get your "EMT" certificate. Thanks so much for trying to sound like you know something. Now, take a station firehouse and give yourself a high colonic... you are bound to feel so much better when you "professionally" flush all that shit out of your system.
@43, @48: F.U. and F.U, respectively losers.
Was I a little abrasive? Sure. I'm tired of people getting a big head. For what it's worth, I don't know anybody in politics to pay off. I steer clear of all that; I know it's not too strenuous (about 140 hours... a few months) to get a cert, but not that easy. And I'm a volunteer; why would I spend $50 when I don't even make that money back? But you didn't address the point. At all. So clearly you have no response. You seem to believe you're super-qualified to look down your nose at everybody else. What, exactly, is your claim to all this knowledge? Don't be modest, spit it out. Wait, never mind. I just read the other comments on this page. I'm forced to conclude you're just a troll. I'd be embarassed about falling for it, but I'm having just as much fun as you are... Hope you're hungry :)
they didnt really reaveal anything.. no name no lacation ect... what the hell is the big deal ya dork
Irrelevant, but you have such a cool job. You're lucky. So pay more attention to patients!

Yeeeeeeeeaaaaahh, you're the kind of person I fear achieving a medical degree. ...You DO know you're allowed to read (and pay attention to) the case files...right?
