I hope you let your boss know that your co-worker was supposed to cover the shift. If you didn't let them know, they won't care. Unfortunately that's what happens to many people when you ask them to switch shift, don't tell manager for approval.
At old job I would tell my manger I couldn't work a day & she just tell me to find someone to cover your shift then make a note of it. I tend to ask someone who was working that day so the can verbal agree in front of my manger. If they don't show up its not my problem.
