Today, after an entire year spent in physical therapy recovering from three knee surgeries, I finally returned to doing light agility exercises and running on a treadmill. When I told my therapist I had never been so happy and proud, he responded with, "This usually only takes 5 months, pussy." FML

Asshole much? Maybe time to switch therapists.... Also, grats on recovery!!

Time to take that next step, OP. Put those legs to use and get that foot up his ass.

He needs to work on his pep-talk skills or watch his tongue. That's a sure-fire way to compound and already probable self-esteem problem in a lot of people. #67, that's not motivation, that's a dick thing to say to someone who probably felt proud of himself.

That was unprofessional of him

Why would he be complaining? He spent all those extra 7 months getting your money. Congrats on your recovery though

That was uncalled for. Everyone is different. Report him to his supervisor, you don't deserve to be treated like that and therapy hás as much to do with physical, accomplishments as it does with trust um your therapist. Be proud proud of what you've achieved OP, you worked hard for it.

It doesn't matter if it took you longer than other people to get to a certain point of recovery. At least you made it!

5 months with one or two knee surgeries, but you had three. that's a big deal and you should be proud. don't let that guy take it away from you. also, that therapist should be written up at least.

I don't think that the people commenting understand what physical therapists actually do. they aren't there to make you happy. they aren't there to be your friend. they are there to set you up with exercises to get you up and moving again and to push you to do them. these exercises are usually very painful, but the more you DON'T do them, the longer your recovery will take. if your therapy takes twice as long as normal, that usually means the person is constantly quitting and not putting the work in to get better. imagine working in a place where everyday you give people the ability to make themselves better, but they refuse to do it. and you watch them refuse for an entire year. I think you'd be frustrated too.

I feel your pain OP. I'm recovering from knee surgery as well and they are telling me 7-8 months before I'm well enough to go back to sports and stuff. so I understand why 3 surgeries could take a year. That's actually not bad for 3. Knees take a while. Best of luck on the rest of the recovery!

Oh and definitely hope to see a follow up on your progress (:
