Today, after buying over $300 worth of food and alcohol, I found out all my friends aren't coming to my New Years party but headed to the BIG party at the local club. The one which I sold my ticket to after my friends convinced me to throw a party instead. FML

Your friends are serious assholes, and that's a really shitty thing they did. It sounds like they almost planned it that way. I'd say throw the party anyway...invite family, neighbors, whoever the hell else you can think of. Open invitation, cheers to new friends! =]

These aren't friends. Good luck in finding new ones. I hope you don't invite these folks over for New Year's Day or afters of any sort.

its not Op's fault his friends are *******. But it is his fault if he continues to let them into his life. I have a friend like this, who always has be hang out with her boyfriend despite plans we already made. I told her, no more chances, deleted her number and have not answered any of her calls. This is the end of the line man, you have to decide if you want real friends or if you want to be alone. Because these friends aren't your friends, they have used you, ditched you and made you feel like shit. Its done. They don't like you for whatever reason. Perhaps you are a pushover. I mean, didn't you think it was weird they didn't offer to help pay for the food or confirm the tickets were sold. If they say "plan a party" then make them help you pay for it. New Years resolution #1: Stop being such a ******* pushover and start demanding respect.

damn.. you made some good points but I think you need to distinguish the difference between a pushover and a good friend. maybe the OP just wanted to do something nice for his friends! in my eyes, doing something nice for people doesn't make you any less of a person. but I definitely agree on getting new friends--2010 = new friends :)

My point wasn't that Op shouldn't do nice things for his friends, it was that his friends didn't offer to help him pay for the party or tell him that they sold their tickets (if they did and still went then Op REALLY needs to find new friends). Despite that, Op, I wish you all the best for a new year and new friends. A pushover is someone who keeps letting people shit in his mouth and calling it chocolate. A good friend is someone who does nice things, is there for you, and you life. Pushovers are like puppies, you kick them and they still like you. Until they go feral, take a gun and shoot the shit out of you.

I'd punch them all in the face.

It's called peer pressure, your own fault for giving up your ticket. Next time do what you want.
