Today, after finally deciding to push past my extreme shyness, I talked to the person beside me in class. I was so nervous that when I went to take a sip of my coffee, it slipped out of my hand and splashed all over both of us. Not only did I ruin her white dress, but I also gave her mild burns. FML

When you have social anxiety and extreme shyness, it is really hard to put yourself out there and push past it. Don't let one little hiccup stop you from continuing to get through it. It is really hard and I commend you for taking that chance OP. Good luck in the future.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Maybe this might turn into a good thing.

We I've had friendships start off worse

Sounds like the beginning of a new friendship. Some of the best start off like the worst. Like Emma and Regina

Aww that sucks. But it could've happened to anyone, just remember that hon. Keep L Don't give up, it'll get easier.

That's one way to make an impression, at least she'll remember you.

Don't blame yourself that wasn't your fault good job for talking to her tho

Oh no- I'm sorry! I'm sure you felt awful but it could be the story you tell your grandchildren!

Thank you all so much for the supportive comments. I did pay for her dry cleaning, though it took me quite a while to convince her to let me do so. She was really understanding about the whole thing. We've become friends so now whenever she sees me, she jokes about me staying away from new people when I have a hot drink. It wasn't the best way to make a new friend but it's a fun story to tell now.

Sounds like the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
