FYL OP. However, like a few others have mentioned its just a bad idea to give a boyfriend (or girlfriend) access to an account with that much money. If you live together a joint account that you only deposit enough money to pay your joint bills is a better plan!

I'm hoping you didn't tell him why you were saving up the $ and he (stupidly) assumed it was there to be spent. If he knew or if he stole it in some other way other than having access to your account, you definitely need to kick him to the curb!
