Its an upgrade from McDonalds to Chipotle
It does suck you didn't know about it, but you know have learned to eat on a tight budget. hopefully people can appreciate this.
Baked potatoes, rice and beans, PB&J, cereal, bananas, ramen, sandwiches, grilled cheese(depending on what you can get past your RAs), volunteering for concessions and taking home extra food, attending church functions, because free food. This is college. Starving so that one day you can possibly get a good job.
Cash in some credit for a party or something.
Hey ! What exactly is a meal plan ?
Most colleges have a cafeteria and depending on the school you have "swipes" (you swipe your card to enter and then get as much food from the cafeteria as you want; you have around 3 or more swipes a day depending on the plan) or you have a card with points on it that can be used at on campus food locations in substitute of cash. If you live in a dorm without a kitchen you have to be on a meal plan which is like $1300-1800 up front at the beginning of the semester. TLDR; gift cards you can use for food
5$/day is alot more than I had for the last 2 years.
This is a bit like discovering you have an inheritance from a long-lost uncle. Sad that you didn't know your uncle, but you can probably console yourself with the money (or in this case food).

Hey, at least they bought it and you eventually found out! It was a rough start, but now you'll be able to dine like a king! Er, a college student with a meal plan, but you get the point.
At least you'll be eating good now :)
