Today, after months of living on five dollars a day for food in college, I found out my parents bought me an expensive meal plan and forgot to mention it. FML

Hey, at least they bought it and you eventually found out! It was a rough start, but now you'll be able to dine like a king! Er, a college student with a meal plan, but you get the point.

At least you'll be eating good now :)

If there is no carry over of the funds think of the residence party you can throw at the end of the year You will be legendary on campus next year

My school allowed us to use the unused credits at the end of the semesters for bulk purchases of things like bottled drinks and cereals. You could ask whoever is in charge of the dining hall about it. I couldn't use my meal plan due to dietary restrictions and they wouldn't allow me off of it, but I was able to get enough water bottles and Snapple to last a year and donate some of the money to charity (as opposed to getting no refund at all)

Well if it ever becomes a problem in the future, many colleges have student food banks. As long as you're willing to go in, there's free food so at least you won't be starving.

Hopefully it carries over to next year.

You really should have said something to your parents earlier they would have told you also most schools require a minimum meal plan if you live there.

$35 a week for food is more than I spend on my grocery budget as a college student. Cooking at home can definitely be done for less than $5 a day and eat healthy.

As a fellow college student, I have no idea how you were unaware. I had a meal plan and the school sent me so many emails about it. Lol

Mine didn't. The only way I knew how much I had left was by spending some and checking the balance on the register. Didn't even get receipts if it was at the dining hall.

I'm going to say you deserved it because you've learned a valuable lesson and you sound ungrateful for it. you learned how to live like a real adult without mooching off your parents. welcome to reality buddy!
