Today, after putting in 110% at my shitty job for two years straight, my boss told me point-blank I'm too good in my current position for him to ever be able to justify promoting me. FML

In other words, your boss knows you would fast track to his position and he is afraid you would surpass him

"If I'm that good, imagine how well I'd train others and how much would productivity go up?"

Go get management at a place like that

It is mathematically impossible to put out 110% for two years.

Start training other people to be as good as you are. Then you may be comfortably promoted.

maybe jst ask for a raise and if it's a no, I think it's time u take ur talents elsewher

That's cool. Tell him you're looking for a better job with more pay & benefits. GL finding someone to do what I do better sucker!

Bosses shouldn't be allowed to do this, but unfortunately it happens all the time. People shouldn't be deprived of a promotion because they don't think they'd find someone to replace you that would do as well as you did.

If I was in your situation, that's when I'd put in my two weeks.

Probably best to secure another job first.
