What if the robbers had slipped OP's boyfriend a sleeping drug that erased the past 8 hours of his memory when they broke in, so he wouldn't be able to remember the robbers faces? Because that would be a smart plan for a robbery.

How would they do that? "I'm here to rob you, sir. Please assist me by taking these sleeping drugs." ..I was under the impression OP's boyfriend was already asleep when the robbery took place.
