Today, after spending weeks working on a song that meant a lot to me, I reluctantly posted it online. The "friend" who'd convinced me to post it, commented, "This is the worst shit I've ever heard." He got 30 likes, along with a barrage of agreeing, equally terrible comments. FML

Be proud you had the courage to post it. Also, your friend is a dick.

They're not your friend. And don't give up. It sounds like your heart was in it and it deserves to be. I post after all of the ugly post "at least you all could have been constructive". And remember people like to make themselves feel better by hurting others or putting them down. Keep your head up.

Wait a minute... didn't the same thing happen to Rebecca Black?

Who needs enemies when you have friends like this!

It's not anyone's fault that you have a bad taste in music.

If it's bad, it's bad. They should have found a more respectful way to tell you besides embarrassing you.

I've always found that if you feel reluctant to share a song online then don't. The ones that I genuinely felt proud to share online received some mixed reviews but it was mainly positive. I'd also recommend sharing your music to communities that share your tastes in music. Those people are much more likely to give some useful, constructive criticism than your friends who are bound to have varied opinions in and among themselves thus leading to some disheartening responses such as the responses you received.

If you'll post the link (or pm it to me) I'll listen to it and critique it (in a professional manner, of course). If it's not completely great, I can give you tips on how to improve it (I've been in band and choir for 8 years, and have played piano for 14, and am very good at music theory).

Is your friend's name Simon?
