I'm 50% bilaterally deaf. I don't know about Australia but if you have something written in law to your benefit, use it. In America we have the Americans with Disabilities Act. Use it if you must. It's not fun being deaf but it's not the end of the world. Good luck OP!
That makes me think of all the morons who tell you to "just cheer up" when they learn that you're clinically depressed
Didn't you know that's the leading treatment? And all those whiners with PTSD need to do is just get over it! Because it's just that easy! And hey, I bet you wouldn't even need that fancy powerchair if you'd just try REALLY HARD to make your brain's message bypass that pesky little 'severed spinal chord' and reach your legs!
What?
Boss say that they're bad. Wife says that and she 100% right. Ugh.
I'm hard of hearing and I got the same thing from a teacher. Doesn't help that people talk so softly and don't speak up when you tell them to.
Make sure that HR knows about your hearing issue. Also, Australia does have a fund scheme if you require workplace modifications or equipment. Pretty sure it can also include training on working with Deaf/hard of hearing. The attitude towards hard of hearing & Deaf people in this country is shocking and unfortunately her attitude is not that uncommon in society.Good Luck!
I was born with genetic hearing loss and experience this all the time. I also experience the people I work with who forget I have hearing loss, get angry with me because I cannot hear the soft doorbell go off when a guest walks in, speaks to me about it, and later remembers I have hearing loss and laugh about it. It's honestly not funny

You mentioned you have hearing problem, what's her excuse for not listening?
Dont let your boss undermine your issue. Disabilities are legit and it sucks how, regarding "invisible' ones, some people assume they are like fictional thing that the disabled persons made up to get special treatment or something. Definitely an "innocent (disabled) unless proven guilty (not disabled). Anywho, is your boss the top of the food chain, OP? Or does she have her own boss. I'd go to him/her of there is one above her. Or HR if the company you work for has one. Most companies in most areas of the world have policies (not to mention national/local laws) that require disabled workers be accommodated for, especially if within reason asking for assistance due to being hard of hearing, is reasonable. you could probably at least get a scribe for meetings or get the meetings recorded (if you aren't completely deaf) so you could read/listen at your own pace/volume level... not to mention getting seats near the presenter at presentations and a memo ( if op is ok with this)to your co workers stating how to handle communication with you. the kind of stuff in the case you aren't completely deaf or that if you and the company can't afford a sign language translator ( for meetings, important stuff as I'm unsure if a company would hire one full time... that would probably have to done through government aide or something..
