Today, an American lady here in Ireland asked me if I was a Leprechaun. Thinking she was joking, and me being quite "vertically challenged," I decided to just say yes. She then grabbed me and made me endure photographs, cuddles and pats on the head from all her fellow tourists. FML

To those of you who are American, please stop apologising and feeling bad, I actually found that lady and her friends quite amusing so they made my day. And what's more the story got published on here, that's more exciting than a pot of gold any day

As an American, a little part of me just died inside.

Oh behalf of Americans who aren't complete morons; I apologize for you having to endure such humiliation.

Please don't judge us by out weakest links

Didn't know they had ladies in America....

ok so everyone is talking about the pot of gold what about the lucky charms you assholes dont discriminate! no but really we arent all that dumb. sorry op

Oh come on, guys. Just because you're American doesn't mean you have to apologize for all Americans. Should all black people have to apologize any time one black person does something wrong? Should all women have to apologize every time one of our own makes a stupid mistake? If they judge us all by the actions of one, that's their problem; not ours. Plus, I don't think OP did judge us poorly in the first place, since he says he initially thought that the woman was joking :P. That shows he has a good sense of humor and doesn't take offense easily.

Thank you. I was bothered by the fact that everyone felt the need to apologize for being American. Being so defensive seems to perpetuate the sterotype to me. Aw well.

And on top of that, once OP realized what she was doing, how about opening your mouth and saying no? I guess from that one experience it's safe to say short Irish people are spineless. Or am I jumping to conclusions?

wow some people are idiots. im irish and a friend of mine moved to America 7 years ago for college and is now married over there. she still gets asked by anyone knew she meets whether there really are leprechauns here, and has actually been questioned by locals about how she can have blue eyes blonde hair and tanned skin... because in case people weren't aware we're all green eyed pale and firey red haired over here, there are no other gene pools to choose from... also we're all alcoholics and love Guinness
