Today, as I go to a small private Christian college, the academic dean came up to me and asked me to put some old records on CD, since I have a record player that can do that. I had to listen to eight records of old students from the 1970's singing bible thumper Christian hippie music. FML

1. Why go to school there when it seems like you disagree with their views? 2. Why did you do it? He couldn't force you, could he? 3. No volume control? I don't know about record players, but if they do have one, that could have been easily fixed.

um, where in the FML does it say that the OP disagreed with her righteous views? there's isn't a hint of that kind of blasphemy.

Danny, he probably had to sit there and split the recording into multiple tracks as he recorded it (meaning he would have to listen). For the record (pun intended), I'm also a Christian and I wouldn't mind being in a Christian college if that's where my program was offered, but I would hate to be stuck listening to people singing Christian music (not even actual bands). Hell, most Christian bands use their status as Christians as a crutch. Though there's some exceptions like Believer, or As I Lay Dying, or Living Sacrifice... These bands also have large non-Christian audiences too though.

45, the OP seems to disagree with the views expressed in the Christian songs, at least.

The op not liking the style of music doesn't mean not agreeing with the views of the school. I'm pretty sure the school's doctrin isn't based on 70's christian music. Being christian you dont have to like and listen to all christain music. You don't even have to agree 100% with all of the schools views.

How many Christians do you know who use the word "bible thumper"? I've only ever seen atheists and agnostics use it.. And once a buddhist. It was a bit.. Forward of me to assume that, but I think the use of that term is too derrogatory toward Christians to be used by a Christian.

I'm a Christian, and I call people Bible Thumpers some times. To me, the difference is when they are so strict with their beliefs that they end up pushing everyone who doesn't hold the same values away from them. Take drinking for example. Personally, I love alcohol, but I know some people who refuse to shut up about my "sinful habit.". That's when I use the term.

Trust me, there are followers of the Christian faith who are completely justified in using the term, "Bible-Thumper" to describe other so-called Christians. I believe in Christ and His teachings, yet I do not feel the need to apply Scripture to every situation that comes my way and dominate anyone who challenges me or my faith. I am, however, related to people of the nature I have just described, unfortunately, and it gets more annoying than you might guess; yes...it is possible to Bible-Thump other Christians, and it happens to me on a semi-regular basis.

I agree, that's like going to a church and complaining about having to hear about religion. Or walk into a resturant and complain about having to eat. I got hundreds of these!

From the sound of it, you are a mediocre athlete that chose to attend a small Christian school to continue your sport. If that's indeed the case, they are paying you thousands of dollars to be there. Suck it up.

What's wrong with 70's christian music? Even if you don't agree with the sentiment you can still enjoy the tunes. Or is your problem with it that its just not ' cool'?

@41 lol that's what I was just thinking

If you didn't want to transfer the records, you could have let him borrow the record player to do it himself, or have someone else do it. No need for you to do something you find unbearable.

that's actually pretty awesome! not an FYL
