Today, as I started my car, I heard the most horrific sounds coming from the engine. When I lifted the hood I realized I'd found my son's cat. FML

Hey! OP here! the cat actually was wrapped around the Serpentine belt! No.it did not survive, and my car is in the shop, being cleaned out with a new belt. Sad thing my son was in the car, he kept saying Mommy! what is it?! The cat has been lost, I actually hadn't drove my car for a couple of days so I'm not sure how long it was actually in there. I am surprised how.many people this has happened to, glad it wasnt just me!

Are you sure it didn't just go to live on a farm, op?

So who wants to be the one to break it to 1.. I don't have the heart

I've heard of this happening before, sadly. It may seem like a drag, but I do recommend checking beneath the hood of your car before you drive somewhere, every single time. It prevents this kinda stuff from happening. Good for the animal, and good for your car. Sorry it had to happen to you though. Sometimes we learn the hard way...

How did it get in there in the first place

114, you seriously open your hood to check for animals everyone you get in the car? B.S.

I've always been told just to bang on the hood a few times before starting the car. It should scare the animal out

Mine was a squirrel. Started building a nest in there.

I'm so sorry, OP...I wish I could give you and your son a hug.

True! although I am in the bad habit of picking up strays. I assumed the cat had wandered off! I never imagined this would happen.

LOL my thoughts exactly!! I never imagined I'd kill an animal when I started to work that day

Hey OP I read your comment about your twins being allergic to cats! Have you thought about maybe getting a hairless cat? I know they're kind of ugly lol, but this way your kids can have an indoor pet, this won't ever happen again & your kids are allergy free!!! They also have hypo allergenic dogs if you wanna go the puppy route! :-) Good luck with the decision! Sorry this happened to you guys!

#123- Actually, yes. I don't see why it's such "B.S.," it only takes a few seconds to do and can prevent bad things from happening to both my car and my conscience.

Different meaning to KFC... Am really sorry about the cat. Grew up with a Blue Point Siamese that took on German Shepards simultaneously to protect his territory.

When I get home I'm gonna hug my cat extra long. poor kitty.

Wow that really sucks :-( For all parties involved. I couldn't imagine this happening to our cat. Absolutely horrible.

I've read that especially when it gets cold out or you haven't driven in awhile you should pound on the hood a couple times to scare any animals underneath.
