Today, at 3:00 am, I sat with my 3 year-old daughter while she tried to go back to sleep. She'd had a nightmare, and I'd read that "not leaving" was the most important thing a father could do. My wife woke and called me a pervert for sitting there. FML

Hopefully she was just joking? And, I mean, it was 3am, she was probably out of it anyway. No worries, you did the right thing and it's good that you're not letting her come into your own bed when those things happen because then they'll do it all the time. That's how it was with my brothers, atleast.

If she's serious, then she's clearly not cut out for parenthood - certainly not adoption. She's your DAUGHTER, and the fact you adopted shouldn't make a difference - your wife should understand, and shouldn't even be able to CONSIDER that. You should leave her, both because she doesn't appreciate and understand you AT ALL, and because she clearly doesn't feel the same way as you do about the adoption.

I agree that your wife made a pretty bitchy comment there. Not to justify her behavior or anything, I'd just like to point out that there are a lot of people out there who simply cannot comprehend the father/daughter relationship, me being one of them. Having never had a supportive relationship with any male whatsoever until I was well into my teens, I can't help but find myself a bit distrusting of men - regardless of whether they deserve it or not. When every early experience with a certain gender entails violence, abandonment, or abuse, it's hard to just throw that all away. So again, not saying her comment was at all appropriate, but I'd just like to throw that out there.

my dad died when i was fairly young. i used to have nightmares almost every night. how i wish he had have been there for me. what you did was right. i am so jealous of your daughter!

spoiler alert, your wife is a horrible mother. the adoption service did a really good job finding that kid a good home. pervert dad and shitty mom. taxes: worth it!

I agree with everyone who thinks your wife is being a bitch and the like. You were just trying to be a good dad, and I think that's really sweet (: Ignore your wife, she's being stupid, and clearly doesn't understand the bond you share with your daughter.
