Today, at 3:00 am, I sat with my 3 year-old daughter while she tried to go back to sleep. She'd had a nightmare, and I'd read that "not leaving" was the most important thing a father could do. My wife woke and called me a pervert for sitting there. FML

Today, I was trying to sleep when I saw a head looming from the darkness with no eyes and a mouth open like a silent scream. I just froze and pissed myself. It was my daughter wanting to cuddle with us. Alas, the bed was wet, so she got put back in her bed, while we had to share the sofa downstairs. FML

Today, my husband actually helped put our 4 year-old to bed because I was watching my nephews, who were about to be picked up. When I was sitting with my nephews in the living room, he yelled for me to help with our daughter. I said I couldn’t and he told me to shut up. I put her to bed every other night. FML

Sleepless in Singapore

Today, I was having trouble sleeping due to jet lag. I was finally sleepy and looking forward to a decent night of rest when my 4 year-old woke up and refused to stay in his room or try to rest. The next two hours involved him shouting at me, kicking me, and crying because he wanted Daddy, who is on a business trip. FML

Today, I'm dead on my feet after being awake since 1AM with the baby. I begged my wife to watch both the baby and our four year-old for an hour while I napped. She refused, and instead said she needed a rest more. Her reason? “I might need to do a shit later.” FML

Hopefully she was just joking? And, I mean, it was 3am, she was probably out of it anyway. No worries, you did the right thing and it's good that you're not letting her come into your own bed when those things happen because then they'll do it all the time. That's how it was with my brothers, atleast.

If she's serious, then she's clearly not cut out for parenthood - certainly not adoption. She's your DAUGHTER, and the fact you adopted shouldn't make a difference - your wife should understand, and shouldn't even be able to CONSIDER that. You should leave her, both because she doesn't appreciate and understand you AT ALL, and because she clearly doesn't feel the same way as you do about the adoption.

Obviously there must be something wrong, no one jokingly says something like that and doesn't mean it. I have an 18 month old daughter and her father hasn't gotten up for her in he middle of the night since she was 3 weeks old so if you were MY husband I would love you all the more for caring about MY needs as well as the child's, your wife OBVIOUSLY has never had children as she would know this and appreicate you for it, its wonderful when the father takes an active role in the life and development of their child, Kudos to you and I really hope you sort this out with your wife...

Huh? What will she say when she sees you picking your daughter up to carry her? Kissing her goodnight? Or--gasp, horror--giving her a BATH?? If your wife actually meant this, and wasn't joking or sleep-talking or something, then it sounds like she has serious problems.

Everyone that is suggesting divorce isn't thinking it through. The wife will probably convince the court that he is a pedo and he will never get to see his kid after that, in addition to all the other penalties that come with those accusations.
