Today, at my new job, a coworker offered to help me mop the floors since she wasn't busy. I ended up getting written up by my boss for supposedly being too lazy and making other people finish my work. FML

I had something similar happen to me. I was helping another staff member collect the trash bags from bins. She said she'd do it and for me to hand her the bags and take the trash. My (now ex) boss came out and accused me of doing no work. The lady stuck up for me and said to me when he walked off that he's going to be difficult with me. She wasn't wrong. Some bosses/managers are assholes on power trips. You can't do anything right in their eyes.

Silly Boss ! Teamwork makes the dream work

Why didn't your coworker just tell your boss what happened?

This is why I want to own my own business lol

owning your own business still means dealing with idiots and rude people. Actually even more so than being an employee, and it involves being more politically correct because then you are responsible for the whole business, not just yourself.

I´m hoping your coworker stood up for you and explained how she was the one who offered, it wasn't you who asked...

Has the world just forgotten the concept of teamwork...?

Either your boss is stupid, or your coworker used this opportunity to make you look bad on purpose.

Hmm....does your place of work have two mops? If not, then she wasn't really "helping" you mop the floors, she was actually mopping the floors for you, wasn't she?

No we were nipping at the same time.

Same thing happened to me as well. I was on my second or third day working at a new job and I told my manager that my coworker told me she had nothing to do and told me she'll take care of it because I was doing another task. My manager said that next time I do it because she told me herself to do the task. She said she didn't ask my coworker to do it. I just think it's really annoying. As long as it gets done who cares? It was actually faster because my coworker had nothing to do. I know it's to evaluate how I am as a new employee but it's ridiculous to get scold or written up for it. I was just given a stern warning but that absolutely sucks to get written up for it.

teamwork makes the dream work!

I understand where you and your co-worker are coming from, but if your being paid to do one thing and someone is being paid for another, you should ask your boss or whoever first. Its nice she offered though!
