Today, at work, I served a group of three teens. Their tab was $75 and they tipped me nothing. They wrote a thank you on a piece of receipt paper, put it in a glass of water and used a coaster to turn the glass of water upside down on the table, spilling water everywhere. They also stole my pen. FML

My generation can be little *****, I have to say ...

This type of disrespect is definitely not confined to this generation. From this site you've seen how ridiculous people of all ages can be.

I don't tend to tip, and if I do, it's usually only a dollar, but that's because I never know how much to tip or I don't have enough in my bank account

This excuse is one that annoys me most. If you don't have enough in your bank account, eat or drink at home. If you can't afford it, don't try to spend it.

#119....please don't make lame excuses for being an asshole. The server has to pay taxes on what the govt assumes they were tipped. Therefore the server is paying for the privilege of serving you. Tipping is not rocket science. A standard tip is 15% of your bill, more if the service was better than expected and a bit less if the service is sub par. If that math exceeds your skills, there are tip calculator apps that can tell you exactly what you should tip. You can also ask your server to add the appropriate amount....trust me, they know exactly what 15% of the bill is. If you do not "have enough money in your bank account", you should not go out to eat or should choose a place that doesn't require tipping....like Subway or McDonald's. I am on a limited budget myself, so I choose where I go by how much I can afford and figure a tip in as part of the outing. Oh...by the way, if you are using a gift card, coupon, or Groupon the tip should be 15% of what the bill would be normally, NOT the reduced amount.

#120 and #128, she is from Canada. I think the minimum wage of the waiters there is better than in the US. Maybe that's why she doesn't have the same tipping culture as the people in the US. I'm from a country where the minimum wage is around $13,50 (US) for everybody, including people in the restauration industry, and that's why we don't have a strong tipping culture here either. If I went to the US, I would tip though.

If you're in the US, unless the server is downright abusive, then you tip. If you can't afford the tip, then you cannot afford the meal. You're cheating someone out of their wages.

You should have complained to the manager

Ugh. Teenagers. Being a waitress/waiter is hard enough with out teens or those grumpy, impossible to please old people. I'm sorry Op.

Some teenagers I really don't understand. Ungrateful, inconsiderate and spoiled many of them. I'm sorry for a lot of my generation

I've pulled my share of restaurant pranks too, but I always tip really well to make up for it when I do

Hopefully they will. And spit in their meal next time.

I'm sorry OP:( I was a waitress at one point, and made the vast majority of my income through tips. That's simply how it is for waiters/waitresses. But some *****, clearly don't take that fact into consideration when they decide to stiff you.
