Today, at work, I was told I was a failure. Feeling like crap, I went to my best friend to see if he could make me laugh. He told me that he felt obligated to hang out with me, so he thought that we shouldn't anymore. FML

Today, I saw my friends talking about plans for later during lunch. I walked over and asked for the plan. My best friend of 12 years gently took me aside, and said "You know that person in each group of friends that is only around to be made fun of? That's you." I just got dumped by my friends. FML

If your friend feels obligated to hang out with you, that doesn't sound like a very solid friendship. It sucks to lose a friend, but sometimes people grow apart or realize that the premise of a friendship was wrong in the first place. It's better to surround yourself with people who actually want to be there. Unless your friend is a complete ass in general, I can't fault him for not looking out for his best interests too. Perhaps your friend was just a bad friend to begin with, though there is the possibility that it's a result of you being a bad friend first. You may want to figure out what may have gone wrong in your friendship so it doesn't happen again.
