Today, during an hour-long drive, my sister told me she's lost her "faith in humanity", because one of her friends bought his 8-year-old son an iPad. She uses this stupid expression all the time, and I got so pissed off that I forgot to brake at a red light, rear-ending the car in front of us. FML

This fml makes me lose all faith in humanity...

Unfortunately, getting pissed off is no excuse for not using your breaks.

brake! not break. the sad thing is that op isn't the only one that used the wrong spelling. perhaps the kids are not the only ones who could benefit from those educational apps.

Reminds me of curb your enthusiasm where Larry David couldn't stand how Ted danson always said things were heaven. Oh this parking spot is heaven. Oh this tastes like heaven. Everything's heaven with that guy.

First of all, YDI for losing your temper so badly that you ran a red light. You could have caused a serious accident. Now, I do agree that parents need to stop giving their kids these high-end electronics that they aren't mature enough to handle. An eight-year-old with an iPad is too young. I typed up all the Santa letters at the newspaper where I work and more than half asked for an iPhone, iPad, or something to that extent. I'm talking kids in like first and second grade. And half the time, parents actually get their kids these things because they can't stand up to their own offspring and tell them no. So yes, I can totally see where your sister is coming from, and even if she sounds like a broken record, you could try telling her that rather than risk getting into an accident.

In all fairness OP might not have run the light, it all depends on how fast he was going when he hit the car that stopped for the light.

My sister in law is a teacher and says that some schools are starting to introduce iPads in the classrooms. I suppose for "free time" the kids can have access to many educational games. It's a fine line these days because assuming that an iPad or iPod is just for music or twitter makes one seem ignorant..

Thank you 52! All these judgmental assholes are pissing me off.

That was my first thought. I guess an 8 year old having an iPad might seem extreme to us because we never had them when we were younger, but I remember when I was little schools were starting to phase in computers and my parents didn't understand why it was necessary for a child to have a computer because they were expensive and "did the same thing a bloody typewriter does". Nowadays everybody has a computer, and I guess it would be strange for a child NOT to know how to use a tablet or a smartphone. Especially when things like tablets are being used in schools now.

#85---I never said they're replacing recess with *free time* Remember what free time meant back then?

#85 you look younger than me yet sound like my grandpa. Your comment was so ignorant you make it seem like physical education and recess has been banned from all schools across the country.

I'm really trying to say FYL, but this just can't be reasoned with. I agree with your sister, 8 year olds are too young to be given iPads. And some people really do overuse some phrases. But why is a stupid phrase a reason to lose control of your car? Thank goodness it was only rear ending and not something more serious.

Nice username op and I agree that phrase is annoying

its true, 8 year olds don't need cell phones and iPads! a guy I work with bought his 5 year old a brand new iPod, why? because he dropped his old one in the toilet! what happened to building forts, riding bikes, and playing with rocks and dirt???

Now THIS is stupid. I'll be one to argue that parents can get their kids electronics if its their choice, but your friend's child clearly ruined his opportunity and proved he wasn't ready.

Well I'm 10 and I have an phone (not an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy though, I wish, I have an LG T505, it's good).

Why is it always the iPads fault?
