OP here. Thank you all for your comments and stories. They definitely made my day. I am in the psychology field. When I first started in the field, parents were more apt to work WITH their children and change behaviors in the home. It was not something that took 14 years to realize as much as it's amazing how in just 14 years the parents have changed into the "fix my child" and don't want to work on their part of the issues. Not all parents; I still have a few good ones in the group, but that day was back to back parents. Thank you all again.

I've learned this just after two months of working at an elementary school. Kids are so much more tolerant and accepting of others than adults are.
My experience has been that once you see the children in action you learn a great deal about the parents. Sad.
My experience is that when you see the parents in action, you learn a great deal about the kids. So many things about student behavior (good and bad) becomes clear when you meet the parents.
Sometimes kids can be a hell of a lot more mature and accepting about things than quite a few grown-ass adults. It's shocking.
Yeah, as a highschool who has refereed, that's almost always the case... Kids on the field are great, but the parents on the sidelines are awful...
This does not surprise me, considering that the parents don't have the presence of an authority figure who will punish them for their bad but not law breaking behavior. That and a lot of parents develop an attitude about being the parent and thus always being the one in the right.
So what you're saying is, you're a remedy for shitty parenting. Congratulations, OP! You're awesome at your job!
Sometimes children are much more civilized
Biological theory of behavior
This is so true. I work with kids and if I do one "wrong" thing that their parents don't like they go crazy.

Not surprising. At all. The little ones tend to be nicer or better behaved than the adults.
It's a shame they ended up as curdled milk rather than the fine wine all those cards talk about!
