OP here. Thank you all for your comments and stories. They definitely made my day. I am in the psychology field. When I first started in the field, parents were more apt to work WITH their children and change behaviors in the home. It was not something that took 14 years to realize as much as it's amazing how in just 14 years the parents have changed into the "fix my child" and don't want to work on their part of the issues. Not all parents; I still have a few good ones in the group, but that day was back to back parents. Thank you all again.

plot twist: OP is actually working with the adults who are the kids she use to work with
I know what you mean, OP. I used to watch kids and teach daycare (two-year-olds). The more time those kids spent in class, the better their behavior was. Problem is, parents can unravel that very, very quickly, and as kids get older it's hard to break them of bad habits and behavior.
I've heard teachers say this before.
Thats the truth, every single behavior issue I have had with a child was just a reflection of how the parent are.
No shit.

I hear you, OP. When I was a teacher I would have parents rant and scream at me, in front of their child, and then wonder why their child is disrespectful at home. We aren't miracle workers!
I dealt with this everyday at the last place I worked at- the parents would be the ones that I was having to talk to more than their kids. It was annoying to deal with, but working with the kiddos was definitely worth it!
I thought that would be a given in this environment the children are a product of the parents maybe you shouldn't be doing this work
Took you 14 years to figure out?
My wife is in the same business and reached the same conclusion, about the time you started working. Seems that things haven't changed.

Not surprising. At all. The little ones tend to be nicer or better behaved than the adults.
It's a shame they ended up as curdled milk rather than the fine wine all those cards talk about!
