Today, feeling very distant from my daughter recently, I decided to sneak a peek in her diary to see what was on her mind. The book was apparently one of those that play the sound of a woman screaming when opened improperly, and alerted everyone in the house to my actions. FML

Today, I found my long lost diary and curiously read it. What's worse than finding out that your mother read your diary? Finding out that your mother wrote comments in it. FML

Today, I was visiting my friend's new house and he was showing me around. I saw a small door in the wall and decided to open it. When I opened it, his daughter was hiding in there and screamed to scare me. Now I know my scream is more high pitched than his daughter's. I'm a 37 year old male. FML

Today, my dad found and read my diary. Most of the entries were about how my father didn't respect my privacy. Then he phoned my aunt and read her passages from it. FML

Today, I found one of my mom's old diaries that dated back to my infant days. I couldn't help but read a little. I'm now in great concern over how many times my mom wrote that she wanted to dunk me in the toilet or throw me against a wall. FML

Today, like an idiot, I accidentally included stuff I learned from snooping in my daughter's secret diary during a conversation with her. She's not happy at me right now, so I may have to polish off my old grovelling skills from when I was still married to her mom. FML

Today, I took a look at my 9-year-old daughter's diary, thinking it would be full of cute stuff. Instead, it was full of hateful rants against me and my husband, as well the boys at her school, who she called gay because none of them ever hit on her. It seems I've failed as a parent. FML

Today, I checked my sister's diary, because I was worried about her recent angry and withdrawn behavior. She caught me in the act, and my mom, whom I've caught blatantly snooping through my stuff multiple times now, grounded me for my "disgusting" violation of my sister's privacy. FML

It's funny how commenters react differently when things are put in a different perspective, just to push OP down. I once wrote an FML saying that my mom read my diary, and most of the comments I got was how stupid I was for keeping a diary.

as someone whos been on both sides of this argument, all i can say is OP needs to seriously sort out her logic. 'my daughter's being distant with me, so i'll invade her privacy to try and talk to her about it', really?? i've walked in on my sister reading my diary before and, no exaggeration, i've never felt a betrayal like it. a diary is a tool used to vent any frustrations that you may have that you can't talk to people about. for someone to snoop through is like revealing all the skeletons in your closet. also, i've made the mistake of snooping through someone's phone. i saw some messages i wish to god i didn't see, but i'll never tell anyone what they were. snooping will always unveil something you wish you didnt read. OP, i hope you've learnt your lesson and will just sack up and talk to your daughter from now on. if she ever speaks to you again.
