Today, five minutes before closing, a woman came in to buy over $300 worth of clothing from the sales rack. My manager and I had to ring it all up, de-sensor it, fold it, bag it, etc. After it was all rung up, her credit card was declined. FML

So I couldn't fit the whole story into the FML, but we actually didn't have to re-stock everything (and for the record, there was a huge sale going on, so she got, like, fifty shirts). Her credit card got declined. She then tried writing a check, but her check was apparently declined (my manager had taken over the register at that point). She spent ten minutes calling her friends, who were in the mall, to get them to come and help, but none of them came, and then she tried another credit card she had, and finally it went through. It was extremely frustrating, because my manager and I missed the bus, which we needed to get home.

Sometimes customer service sucks. But at least your manager knows you're a hard worker!

#39 - When working in a store the most irritating thing is someone coming in a few minutes before closing time. Closing up shop can take ages and someone coming in at the last minute and undoing all your preparation is annoying as all hell - it taking so long that you miss the bus of course just makes it that bit worse!

At least you got paid that whole time. Were you able to call someone to pick you up?

I thought clothing stores would take payment first before doing all that. Well I hope you had a awesome meal to end the day/night.

how would they take payment before ringing things through? have you ever been shopping before? You scan an item, fold it, bag it, and then scan the next one. When all items are scanned, you have the total cost. How could you pay before having that total cost?

#51: Use your brain. You can't pay until you have the price if the items.

Oh working retail sucks. I've had customers yell at me when their gift cards didn't work, their credit cards didn't work, I didn't fold things the way they liked, I couldn't give them a discount, a sale ended on an item they really wanted,we were sold out of Christmas decoration after Christmas, etc. They've also changed their mind and pushed piles of clothes behind my register and I've had costumers like the one OP described. Too bad retail jobs were the only jobs available at the time in my area. I would have gladly worked elsewhere but I needed money so I took what I could get.

Your life sucks because you had to do your job?! Lazy ****.

You have obviously never worked a day of your life in retail. Ringing up a large number of items is tedious and time-consuming. To do all that and then have the card declined is VERY annoying. Especially since, as OP stated, it was near closing time anyway and they ended up missing their bus home because they were dealing with this customer. OP's life doesn't suck because she was 'doing her job', it sucks because difficult customers come along at the most inconvenient times. Also, 'lazy ****'? No, being lazy would have been to tell the customer that they were about to close because they didn't feel like ringing up her stuff at that time.

I work in retail. I so feel your pain.

It's okay, 36, I liked it. Just didn't catch it until you pointed it out.

You did good, too bad it was declined.

I've had something *kinda* similar happen to me when I worked at Walmart. it was five minutes before my shift ended and this guy comes through with $200 worth of food. When the time came for him to pay, he didn't have enough on his food stamps to pay for it. So he put back half his order and when you cancel an item at Walmart you have to hit a button to void it then scan the item. Then once that was over, I had to do something called claimsing the frozen food because they had been taken out of the freezer and since we didn't know how long, they were no longer good to use. For that you had to write the barcode number, the name of the item, and why it was claimsed. So I don't know exactly how much that sucked for you, but I do know how badly customers suck.
