It's incredibly frustrating being shy. I still am myself so I know how hard it can be. I hope it goes well for you, OP and that it will help you build up more confidence.

at least your mother is trying to help.... I'm shy too and know what you feel.

It's just not that easy for someone who is shy, or has social anxiety, to introduce themselves and chat up someone they have never met.

Speeking from my experience you could use some social lube (alcohol). Just don't over do it. :)

18- It's not that easy to just "change". People who are shy aren't that way because they *chose* to be. I'm very shy and find it hard to make friends, but that's not because I've chosen to stay this way. It's actually incredibly frustrating but difficult to break out of.

We don't necessarily need many friends, just a few close friends are enough. Hope the "play date" could become one of those for you!

Friends came come from many different places, you never know how it will turn out.
