Today, I am so shy and friendless that my mother is literally setting up a play-date with one of her friend's daughters. I'm 25 years-old and this is my best chance at making a friend. FML

Some of the best relationships start as friendships in the sandbox throwing sand in each other's faces and screaming "No, YOU are a poopyhead!" Don't forget to put on a clean diaper first, and bring an extra juice box for her. Chicks dig that. Good luck.

people are always friends with someone that has cool toys...

I use to be crazy shy. I wouldn't even speak in class. Teacher thought I was a mute. Then I came to the realization, people will judge you regardless. So I'd rather be judged for who I am and dislikes. Than judged for what I'm not and disliked.

OP there is nothing "wrong" with you. Check your mbti type online. Us introverts work better with fewer friends. I work well with 2, find 3 draining, and have 1. We meet, eat, play uno or watch TV. You are not a failure if you don't go clubbing. Be you. Was 30 when I got this. It'll happen. X

Shy? You probably have anxiety issues like I do ):

Shy doesn't automatically equal anxiety. But yes, that could be the problem.

Sometimes you need a little help meeting people. It always helps me to have a friend introduce me to new people, cuts down on the anxiety. Who knows... maybe you'll have fun. I hope you do. :)

I was the same as you. I couldnt even speak to family without getting extremely self conscious and start stuttering and blushing. I got through it by starting a sport. Maybe its time to start a hobby where you can interact with others.

Try Meetup.com. There are groups for everyone with a wide range of interests. I'm shy as well, but have made a few friends that way.

Elliot Rodger's mother set up play dates for him as an adult as well...

Don't worry OP, this happened to me too. You should just invite people to do things with you, maybe someone from work? Just smile a lot and be yourself. In the few years between 25 & 28 I've managed to come out of my shell and making friends is actually pretty easy. Who knew! All the best with your play date :)
