Today, I answered a call at work from a very irate gentleman. After being shouted and sworn at profusely, I ended the call in a slightly less than civil manner. Turns out that guy is one of our company's biggest clients. FML

Whenever you're at work, you should always be polite or make it a habit to not be rude.

The best thing you can do is be patient and calm. If they continue, transfer them to your supervisor. Getting rude back just gives them ammunition to have you reprimanded and/or fired.

At any job youre going to run into customers who are going to be rude to you that does not give you the right to be rude to them no matter how annoying they are

In today's society, it's more like "My dad is richer than yours!"

Whatever happens, he's clearly in the wrong. You didn't deserve that abuse, and he clearly deserved the less-than-civil end to the call. If the company fires you over that, they need to get their priorities in check - they should care about their employees rather than some rude idiot.

Without their clients, they wouldn't be in business. They can find new employees. You got your priorities a little backwards there.

They care more about the clients because like #86 said, clients bring in the $ and business. An employee can be easily replaced but a client cannot. It's ****** up but it's how businesses do it.

Don't worry OP, we understand that those types of jobs are very frustrating. Especially when a client on the phone has temper issues. There are times you can't take it anymore and become 'unprofessional' during your job.

34- I'm a rough neck, I prefer "My mom can shit-kick your dad." ;P

Too bad....even if he's the company's BIGGEST client, he would still need to treat others nicely....

Maybe it'll blow over like it never happened...

That doesn't mean you need to just stand there and get abused. But you must control your urge to be completely nasty back. "I'm sorry, Sir, but if you continue to yell and curse at me, I'll have to hang up and end this call. Now how can I help you?"

screw him if he can't take a joke, OP. that's why I work in a warehouse.
