Today, I asked my boyfriend advice on apartment hunting - as we were planning to move in with each other. He told me that there is no way he can afford to move out of his parents' house anytime soon. He can, however, afford a collection of belt-fed automatic nerf guns. FML

Allo Trollsters. This is the silly girl who posted the FML. A few disclaimers: 1) Rent is cheaper here than you are thinking. My last place here ran under $500, utilities included. If we split the cost, we aren't looking at massive expenses. 2) He is 25 years old, he lives at his parents' for free, he has a job AND THEY GIVE HIM AN ALLOWANCE. Oh, yeah, and they pay his bills for him. 3) Yes, he acquired all the nerf guns at once, within the past week. 4) I don't have a problem with his hobby. Boys will be boys, and I kinda have a thing for nerds. I do, however, have a problem with the fact that he has lied to me for the past 6 months about his future aspirations... Because I have been busting ass, nose-to-the-grindstone, working towards getting my debts paid off so we could get this place together. Aaaaand, apparently toys are more important.

I'm not a doctor or anything, but im pretty sure that a few nerf guns are less expensive than maintaining an appt.

$40 for nerf guns. $200-$600 for rent.... yes I can see how this makes sense. besides the belt fed nerf guns kick ass

Well, Nerf guns are relatively cheap. However, if he started paying $500 for rent, he probably couldn't afford to buy as many Nerf guns anymore. Which sucks. Colorado is expensive. :(

rent is about a SINGLE COMPONENT of expenses while living on your own. add food, water, electricity, television, phone, internet, & heating on TOP of that. THEN add expenses for moving in at first: washing machines, beds, assorted furniture, etc. AND i am assuming transportation is not another finance to deal with (aka, you guys plan to walk everywhere or one of you has a car that daddy pays insurance for). a nerf gun collection is kind of vague for how much he spends on it. i am doubtful that he buys enough to spend the equivalent of living with you. there aren't THAT many different models of belt fed nerf guns. and the MOST i could see someone charging for one is $100 (i'm pretty sure they're closer to the 60 range... and i'm canadian). oh, and for the love of all that is reasonable don't expect him to sell his hobby to pay rent... THAT IS NOT A LEGITIMATE SOLUTION. it isn't income, it is a lump sum of money that will get you through a month or two.

My one bedroom apartment costs $950 a month. And I don't even live in a good neighborhood. Gotta love California

#76, Do not try and deny a man his God-given right of limitless Nerf guns/accessories/darts.

He has maybe what... six, seven nerf guns? That's three hundred bucks, tops. That's less than half the monthly rent in Colorado. His purchasing of nerf guns has no ultimate impact on his ability to move out with you. I'd suggest you worry about him not having a job that lets him afford paying rent, and quit complaining about his hobbies. YDI.

Exactly. It's like saying FML because her boyfriend owns a PS3, paintball equipment, a hunting rifle or a dumbbell collection. The guys hobbies isn't the problem. If the OP got on here and complained about "My boyfriend refuses to get a job so we can move out and spends what little money he has on his nerf gun collection." that might be a different point.
