Man, why does college have to be so damn expensive.
#34: yes, yes you are. You could have declined and worked through it yourself but then im sure you wouldnt have time to go on FML and bitch to your friends about how bad your rich little life is. I'll be paying my own way through college, with maybe some scholarships for my high test scores, and even if I'm a millionaire my kids will be paying their own way too.
Your mom thinks you're too stupid for college.
OMYGOD, all of you who dont realize it is that, The mother thought her daughter was too moronic for college, so when her daughter asked how much they had saved, she revealed that she never had, THAT is the FML, come on you guys, seriously. its not that hard to figure out.
why do kids think that their parents are isome how obligated to help them pay for college. my parents paid their way and I had to join the military to get an education. just be happy your parents didn't just boot you out with a 20 dollar bill the day after you turned 18 like mine did.
I receive zero financial aid, as the government assumes my parents will be supplying money for my education until I am 25 (my mom always told me she'd get a far lift before I got college money from her, which happened). financial aid is a complete joke. luckily, I was of high enough academic standing to get a half scholarship and a small loan to my school. now all I have to do is pay off the price of a car every year by waiting tables. point is, fyl op, but it doesn't seem like it's too late for you. make sure you have th best grades and activities, do leadership stuff, and get a job now. you are not a brat for assuming your parents will help out with college--the government thinks they will too.
I agree with 17 and disagree with 20. I don't know about the States, but here in Canada it is the law that each parent has to pay a third of the child post-secondary education. Meaning that 1/3 is left for the child. Due to the fact that I have 2 younger sisters, my parents were not able to help me out and I have paid everything since college, including tuition. It was hard at times but I made it through, and I always felt that it was a good thing because I now know the real value of money and I'm not one of those people who can't handle themselves once out in "the real world". I thank my parents because, in a way, they thaught me responsibilities and budgeting. My parents, too, were assumed to be able to pay for my tuition so I didn't get any governmental loans or bursaries. FYL OP, but show her that you can and will go to college, and that you'll work for it too. :)
hi
Sorry, but I don't thin that's much of an FML. I never expected my parents to put anything away for my college, and I know that they didn't. Then again, I was kind of poor growing up and my parents had enough trouble just putting food on the table some months, so maybe that's just me.

#5 and #6 seriously, if you are that judgemental about people who's parents paid for their college, clearly you didn't learn much either. If you are lucky enough to have your parents pay for your education, which often you'll find they are happy to do for you, why on earth would you turn it down? Learning about how to cope with money starts with understanding when to seize opportunities that keep you out of debt. It's just ignorant to generalise and say that they are all spoilt and unable to cope with money. A lot of people who pay for their own education live at home, that doesn't necessarily imply that they can't live on their own or manage a budget. So think a little before you call them "rich brats", some of them are just well off, or have very generous parents.
Wow, I'm sorry. This makes me appreciate my parents' frugal ways during my childhood.
