Today, I babysat the Antichrist of all kids. After the 5 long hours were over, his parents came home. Instead of paying me what they agreed, they offered to let me eat some leftovers of a takeout in the fridge. I'm so afraid of confrontation that I accepted. FML

Rat the little ****** out. No one should have to suffer 5 hours just to be paid with leftovers.

I know it can be tough but you need to learn how to stick up for yourself OP. I've been in similar situations where the families I babysit pay me much less than they promised but leftovers? Not okay. Not okay by a long shot.

Wow those parents are great role models to their children. FYI

Now sometimes hellish kids aren't the parents fault (some kids are just going through a phase), but in this case it is VERY clear that the parents are the source of the bad behavior. You made the right call. Take their leftovers, leave and spread the word to every other babysitter you know that they don't pay. The worst punishment I can think of is them being stuck at home with their awful child. The time and effort a confrontation would have taken are simply not worth it.

If they made an agreement with you then ask them to honor that agreement. You are not being rude for requesting what you earned, so try to work through that fear.

If you ever agree to babysit that kid gain without agreeing to an hourly rate up front, YDI.

They did agree to a payment, but the parents backed out and offered OP food instead.

YDI. I hate confrontation and asking for money, but babysitting is a job, and the parents agreed to paying you a sum of money. YDI for letting them back out of the deal. Every single time I ever babysat I got fed on top of the money I got, not as payment. These parents should be ashamed of themselves however.

Agreed. As a teen I was a petsitter and my main client left me a check every single time. Once he forgot and came over the next day to give me cash(he was my neighbor).

Isn't eating whatever in the fridge mandatory? Did you even get paid in general?

Grow some balls, you deserve to be paid! Stick up for yourself!!!

Contracts. Get your agreed payment in writing. Always.

Yah that's complete crap and if you babysit enough you on any of the babysitting websites? You can tell about the family and kid so other people living near by will know what happened if they consider babysitting for them too.
