Today, I blurted out something like "humdidumdum erm lalala" in public, attracting mystified stares. The thing is, I do this every time I remember something embarrassing I've said or done in the past, in an attempt to erase it out of my consciousness. So it happens a lot. FML

Is that by Skrillex? So, you do an embarrassing thing in the present to erase embarrassing things from your past? Looks like you've set up an infinite loop.

Dafuq? I'm sorry, just try and train yourself to forget those embarrassments and do it in private. In your house, or your room. Good luck OP!

Lolz I move my mouth when I think so people look at me weird too cause they think I'm talking to myself. :) its just something you learn to control with time

I cringe every time I remember something embarrassing I've said or done in the past. Then I think of the VNV Nation lyrics "Though the past, the unwanted memories are holding on to you, all the power in the universe conspires to carry you" and then I continue my day in a good mood.

My mother and I both do this (I kind of growl/clear my throat, she says, "NO" under her breath), and neither of us knew the other did for a very long time. It's apparently not all that "weird" for those of us who suffer that type of anxiety. Not reliving the embarrassment isn't much of an option, but you can definitely try training yourself to a different sound or phrase! :)

Yeah...anxiety sucks. I've been to therapy a lot and it's still not helping.

Hey I do the exact same thing! Wow I thought I was the only one and I was weird, lol. I feel a lot better about randomly making sounds and saying nonsense when I remember stuff now :)

omg! I do this too! I have been doing it my whole life! lol I'm so glad im not the only one. although mine is just the same sing-song hum so people just think I'm humming to a song when I do it in public :) FYL OP, but know you're not alone :)

I'm so glad I am not the only person in the world who does this. I have the exact same habit, but instead I swear instead of saying gibberish. I find the best way to ease this habit is to try to keep stress down and relax. Try it and see what happends.

That's okay, every time I remember something embarrassing that I did or something I just really regret, I involuntarily whistle one high-pitched extended note very loudly. It's embarrassing -.-
