It's your own fault. You should have told him you were taking him to the concert for his birthday or that you got tickets for "us". When you give someone two tickets to an event, you're telling them to invite whomever they wish to take. If you didn't even say you wanted to go, how can you expect him to know you intended the tickets for the two of you?
