Did you type this FML entry on that laptop you bought?
This happened in Canada 20 years ago. They asked all the over paid students to give back $1. Apparently, giving $1 proved they were guilty, and they automatically owed the balance. Those who gave back nothing were in the clear. Check with a lawyer to see if you legally must pay them back.
Rule #1 : don't spend money that you dont have :)
You know how much you're due and how much you've been given; same way I'd notice an extra £1k in my wages. So if they lend it and you spend it then tough shit Sherlock!

No he doesn't deserve it. The loan company should have managed their own decisions better. They made a deal for a loan at one level then changed the deal. I can't see that being legal.
wait, i'm confused. did they give you $1000 more than what you were supposed to get, or mistakenly grant you $1000 more than what you were qualified to get, meaning that on paper, the $1000 is really yours?
