happened to me before, my instructor told me that it's the participation that counts. of course when you come last and still get a medal it feels like a consolation prize, but congrats nonetheless
Well, that's why you shouldn't announce things like "we placed third" without context. Instead, just say "we lost" Losing sucks, but if you do, be honest about it. I got a silver at my last competition and we were 2 in that category. When my pal asked me how it went I just said "I lost". Mentioning you got a price for losing is just dumb.
Tell them you were the first loser.
Hahaha your mum sounds like a dick but its all about having fun man!
You get a bronze trophy?
Only 3 teams because everyone else heard you were coming and was too intimidated to fight you.
It sounds like your mom won the Tae Kwon "D'OH medal. Homer offers sage advice on this topic. "If you really want something in this life you have to work for it. Now quiet, they're about to announce the lottery numbers."
Is OP Gaylord Focker?
As a blue belt in Tae Kwon Do myself, I know how hard tournaments are. Sorry, OP
Maybe you shouldn't have been bragging about being 3rd

At least you participated. You gained experience. You'll do better, good luck!
Hey. You competed. That's worthy of praise in and out of itself.
