Today, I created a poster trying to raise self-harm awareness in teens for my school. They sent me to the counselor, suspended me, and recommended I go to therapy. FML

The poster was not offensive in any way, there were no triggering pictures, and the principal okayed it but apparently changed his mind at the last minute WITHOUT telling me. The reason I was trying to raise awareness is because I recently lost a close friend to suicide after she cut to deeply.

What a joke, #86. This girl is trying to prevent those in need from killing themselves. Funding isn't going to open discussion for those who feel trapped, raising awareness will open discussion and peoples hearts. Grow up and stop trying to put down a noble cause.

That's dumb for the principal to change his mind without telling you. My school is aloud to put up posters.

If you just made posters yourself and put them up around school without getting anyone's permission, I could see how you might get in trouble, although I think a warning would be more applicable than a suspension. You have to go through the proper channels in setting these things up.

I, personally, self harmed A LOT. If I saw a poster around my high school telling me that people care, it would have helped A LOT more than funding to a program. I wouldn't have gone. It's a secret we hold inside, so why go share it with others?

I self harmed too. And honestly I probably would have thought it was stupid. My school never cared about the students. They just pretended it didn't exist. The school counsellor saw my arm and called my mom. She didn't bother to talk to me. My mom took me to psych sessions and they weren't very good. I got better with time but my school certainly didn't help. I don't believe in talk therapy. There's other kinds but everyone makes you do talk.

Coming from someone who has self-harmed for a few years, I would NEVER make a joke about it...but that's not to say others shouldn't. This is FML guys. There is no need to get offended or upset. I think we all need to stop getting so butthurt over a comment.

OP you should definitely find some way to appeal this. It's not on. If you got permission then even if he changed his mind the worst he should be allowed to do is make you take them down. Don't even understand why he changed his mind though. This horrible stigma of mental health problems is something that needs to change so well done for at least doing something :)
